The 2011 Super Rugby season is the first season of the new 15-team format for theSuper Rugby competition, which involves teams from AustraliaNew Zealand and South Africa. Including its past incarnations as Super 12 and Super 14, this is the 16th season for the Southern Hemisphere's premier transnational club competition. The season kicked off in February 2011, with pre-season matches held from mid-January. It will finish in early July to allow players a recovery period for the 2011 Rugby World Cup to be held in September and October; in future non-World Cup years, the competition will extend into August.

This season sees the arrival of the Melbourne Rebels, admitted to the competition as Australia's fifth team after entry by the Southern Kings from South Africa was denied. This is also the first season of a revamped competition format, with a greater focus on matches within each participating country and an expanded finals series.

The English Premiership, also currently known as the Aviva Premiership because of the league's sponsorship by Aviva,[1] is a professional league competition for rugby unionfootball clubs in the top division of the English rugby system. There are twelve clubs in the Premiership. The competition has been played since 1987, and has evolved into the current Premiership system employing relegation to and promotion from the RFU Championship, known as National Division One before the 2009–10 season. Clubs competing in the Aviva Premiership qualify for Europe's two club competitions, theHeineken Cup and the European Challenge Cup. The current champions are Leicester Tigers, who won a record ninth title in 2009–10. Exeter Chiefs were promoted to the top flight for the first time in their history after defeating Bristol in the RFU Championship Final on 26 May 2010, while Worcester Warriors returned to the second tier after a 6 year stint in the Premiership.

The Top 14 is a rugby union club competition which is played in France. The Top 14 is at the top of the national league system operated by the French National Rugby League, also known by its French initialism of LNR. There is promotion and relegation between the Top 14 and the next level down, the Rugby Pro D2. The fourteen best rugby teams in France participate in the competition, hence the name Top 14. The competition was previously known as the Top 16.

The first ever final took place in 1892, between two Paris-based sides, Stade Françaisand Racing Club, with the latter becoming the inaugural champions. The competition has been held on an annual basis since, except from 1915 to 1919—because of World War I—and from 1940 to 1942—because of World War II. The current champions areClermont.
